How to choose a mattress that suits how you sleep
The right mattress is the one that fits how *you* sleep — not the one with the longest spec sheet. Here's how we'd narrow it down.
Start with your sleeping position
- Side sleepers need a little give at the shoulder and hip, so a medium or medium-soft feel usually wins — memory foam or a softer hybrid.
- Back and stomach sleepers want more support to keep the spine aligned; a medium-firm pocket-spring is a safe default.
Sharing a bed?
If one of you gets up early, look for motion isolation — memory foam absorbs movement so you don't feel every turn. Pocket springs also isolate far better than old-style continuous coils.
Sleep hot?
Foam can trap heat. A latex hybrid or a pocket-spring with a breathable cover sleeps cooler because air moves through the core.
Firmness, in one line
Medium-firm suits the most people. When in doubt, size up on support rather than softness — you can always add a topper, but you can't add support to a mattress that's too soft.
Still unsure? Tell our concierge your position, weight range and whether you share the bed, and it'll shortlist two options in seconds.
